Thinning hair in
men
Thinning hair in men is
usually diagnosed as male pattern baldness. Did you know that
according to some studies; there are 9 out of 10 men who have
this kind of hair condition? Male pattern baldness is said to
be linked with testosterone level and genes in the body? The
pattern can easily be seen due to the receding hairline or hair
thinning on the crown of the head. Aside from genes and the
male hormones there are also other factors that would
contribute to this kind of condition like heredity, aging
process and the changes that occurs with the testosterone.
These are the reasons that contributed to the fact that most
men are starting to show signs of going bald as early as the
age of 30 years old; by the age of 60 years, most men are
already bald.

Other
factors that would contribute to the thinning hair in
men can also be in the form of medications like
anti-depressants, beta blockers, NSAID’s (NonSteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug), retinoid and ibuprofen. This hair
condition can also happen to a man after undergoing a major
illness, loss of blood, after surgeries and undergoing severe
emotional stress.
This hair
condition is essentially not dangerous to the health and most
men are fine with it. For those men who cannot accept hair
loss, there are still many options available like wearing of
wigs, hair pieces and hair weaves. There are also hair
treatments available to help treat this hair condition. The
common treatment is Minoxidil (Rogaine), this is a hair
solution that one can apply directly to the scalp and the
affected area. Its purpose is to prevent hair loss and to
stimulate new hair growth; the only problem with this treatment
is that you need to use it permanently because putting a halt
to its application would mean that hair loss problem would be a
problem again. Another treatment that is available for men is
the Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar), this is in the form of a
tablet or pill that would be taken orally. Just like the
minoxidil, hair loss would reoccur if this treatment is
stopped.

For severe
thinning hair in menhair transplants are very popular
among men. The procedure works by transplanting hair plugs to
the affected areas or where there is no more hair growth.
Despite the fact that this medical procedure is quite
expensive, can cause some scarring and some infections; most
men are willing to undergo hair transplants because the results
are quite good and is actually permanent.
Hair loss
and thinning of hair can be quite normal in men but you need to
contact your doctor if the hair loss is accompanied by some
rashes in the scalp, scalp irritations, redness and pain
sensations in the scalp because these might be symptoms of any
health problems. A doctor should also be contacted when you
observed cases of hair loss and hair thinning after starting a
certain medication. If you want to treat hair loss and hair
thinning problems, it would be best that you contact a doctor
as early as possible.
